Coming Clean: Overcoming Addiction Without Treatment
Published in Hardcover by New York University Press (November, 1999)
Authors: Robert Granfield and William A. Cloud
Average review score:

Good Thinking Material
I like the authors' attention to defining words in the beginning of the book and think it picks up on a gut level, with more mass appeal, when individual cases are examined. Don't skip the appendix because there's some good practical stuff there. I know one of the authors and have met both here in Denver, so I might be biased on the positive side, but I think they offer some refreshing views of a subject that touches just about everyone's life. The ideas of social capital and of beating addiction without traditional forms of treatment are worthy of more attention, and I speak in the context of having seen treatment fail for others.

Must reading for prevention and treatment professionals!
As a prevention professional, I found Coming Clean a breathe of fresh air on a topic graced with strong beliefs and passions. The book is particularly germaine for the person contemplating a tobacco cessation program! A must read for the prevention professional and for the treatment professional alike.

Drug & alchology addiction and recovery.
Can addiction be overcome without treatment? This confronts the disease model of addiction, providing a set of alternatives to treatment programs for overcoming drug and alcohol addictions. The words and experiences of recovering addicts are used to enhance a title focussing on alternative recovery processes.

God Will Make a Way
Published in Hardcover by Integrity Publishers (October, 2002)
Authors: Henry, Dr. Cloud and John, Dr. Townsend
Average review score:

There is a Way
There is a way - sometimes not what we expect. Why is it we turn to God as only a "last resort"?! This book is so practical and fresh. It should be very helpful - and hopeful - to all of us who lose our way from time to time. A great thought-provoking book.

Tired?
Tired of trying to make your own way? This book is for you. Dr. Cloud points to the fact that, ultmately, God is in control. Yeilding to His perfect will is simply an act of responsible Christianity. I also recommend | THE PRAYER OF HANNAH | by Kenn Gividen

Great Book
Finally a book that teaches the difference between wanting something more and getting something more. Very clear explanation on how to forgive but not be a doormat. A must read!

Journey to Motherhood ... on Cloud Nine
Published in Paperback by Lullaby Mountain (12 July, 2001)
Author: Lana Jordan
Average review score:

'Journey' empowers a mom-to-be and a mother!
Are women ever tired of reading about the joys and wonder of the birth of a baby? I think not, and Lana Jordan brings not just the experiences of real women with the births of their babies to the reader, she also enlightens us with the important aspects of pregnancy and birth from a medical, physical and emotional standpoint.

Having had four children myself, everything in this book is enjoyable to read-and I sat down and read the book in a couple of evenings! I, like many other moms, enjoy reading and comparing the birth experiences of my own children to others. Above that, the rich content Ms. Jordan offers in each chapter about the traditional and non-traditional opportunities available to women helps shed light on some of the questions that we face with each positive pregnancy test.

In addition to the facts and the birth stories, Lana also brings a touch of faith into the motherhood experience. In my opinion, the miracle of birth came from Above, and there is no better place for us to remember the powers of God, as in our miracles of birth.

New moms-to-be should enjoy Journey, as it brings to light many of the fears about pregnancy and birth. Although you may have to endure every birth story for miles around within your own life, reading this book allows you to contemplate what you really want out of your pregnancy and childbirth-at your own pace and considering your own needs.

But, I believe that the mother who has had at least one child will get the most pleasure from reading this book. After you have your first child, and you ponder more, you have the chance to look back on your pregnancy and birth experience-to decide if you want the same things all over again, or if a different approach would be better for you. Some women featured in the book chose a different route with each child, while some explained that they liked their first experience and returned to have subsequent children in the same way. Whatever route a woman chooses to take with childbirth, Lana Jordan gives you all of the facts from a layperson's point of view, so that you can make a decision based on your very own personal feelings.

This is not another medical directory, with terms that are based on Latin phrases that a normal person cannot understand...nor is it a book about the 40 weeks of pregnancy and each little piece of downy fluff that grows on your baby during gestation. This book focuses on the mother-the one person that makes birth possible. And, it focuses on some of the physical and emotional information that a mother craves for the birth of her baby.

Journey to Motherhood on Cloud Nine empowers a mom-to-be and a mother. Whether it's through the knowledge and experience of the varied 'real women' experiences, or through Lana's own experiences - this book gives the reader the goods so that they can research the options for an enjoyable pregnancy and birth experience.

Emotional rapport relevant for mothers-to-be everywhere
Journey To Motherhood On Cloud Nine: Pregnancy And Childbirth From A Mother's Perspective by Lana Jordan is an amalgamation of honest, candid, and straightforward advice, tips, and thoughts drawn from the life experiences of over thirty mothers. Their experiences are told in their own words and offers the reader an invaluable collection of useful tips, handy suggestions, and emotional rapport relevant for mothers-to-be everywhere. Journey To Motherhood On Cloud Nine is very highly recommended for women aspiring to, or experiencing, the joys, tribulations, and realities of pregnancy and childbirth.

A must for every mother-to-be!
I grew up in a large family. I was the oldest, so I was able to see my mother pregnant nine times. I even witnessed the birth of my brother. With all of this, it is only natural that I have a huge interest in pregnancy and birth. Over the years, I have read endless books on the subjects, and I am always eager to read more.

I wish I could say that all books on pregnancy and childbirth were my favorites, but of course, that is not true. However, recently I read a book which I have totally fallen in love with that I am very excited to share with others. The book, "Journey to Motherhood...on Cloud Nine," is a compilation of essays from real-life mothers who have been pregnant and given birth, mixed with plenty of important information on the pregnancy and birth.

I read "Journey to Motherhood...on Cloud Nine" after I had already given birth to three children, but I wish this book was in existence 12 years ago! As I read it, I felt as though I had thirty women in my home talking with my personally -- telling me all the little, and big, details of their pregnancy and childbirth experiences. It was comforting to read that other mothers-to-be had some of the exact same thoughts as I did and to find out that I was indeed normal.

Overall, "Journey to Motherhood...on Cloud Nine," shows its readers a realistic view of pregnancy and the birthing process. After reading it, a mother-to-be won't be in the dark as what to expect and can go into each trimester, and the delivery room, with peace of mind and knowledge that they are an active participant in one of the most beautiful parts of life.

I highly recommend "Journey to Motherhood" to all women who are pregnant or hoping to become pregnant. It is also an excellent book to share with fathers-to-be, who themselves usually have questions on the birthing process. "Journey to Motherhood...on Cloud Nine" is a must for every mother-to-be who wants to read soothing, uplifting, and educational personal stories before their precious little one enters this world.

OUTSTANDING PLAY BY PLAY OF WHAT WAS GOING ON THERE
THIS BOOK IS SO TOUCHING IT SHOULD BE ON THE MARINE CORPS READING LIST IF YOU ARE OR WERE IN THE MARINE CORPS IT IS A MUST YOU READ THIS BOOK

A testament to the U.S. Marine Corps fighting spirit.
I have read many books about military history and about the war in Vietnam in particular. This is by far one of the most emotionally wrought and amazing books I have ever read. The tales from the marines own words are amazing. You are given a great insight into the amazing odds they were fighting, and their undaunted spirit and determination to survive and win.

Master Yunmen: From the Record of the Chan Master "Gate of the Clouds"
Published in Paperback by Kodansha International (September, 1994)

Master Yunmen. That old windbag!
My teacher is a monk of the Yunmen Order, so naturally I was to get and read this book. Interesting guy really, probably the most influential Ch'an Master in my Ch'an practice but like I said before I am a little inclined.

Really folks, if you are looking for a good book on Zen, go get something by D.T. Suzuki, but if you want breakthrough your delusions, read Yunmen! He's an old windbag but he'll do the trick.

Amitofo.

Yunmen, that old windbag!
My teacher is a monk of the Yunmen order, so naturally I was inclined to buy this book. The first time I read it, I kind of just went through it. I have read it again and now, he's an old windbag! If you are interested in studying true Zen, get a book by Suzuki but if you want to know Ultimate Reality, study the teachings of Master Yunmen. Perhaps you'll learn a wee bit of something!

"What is the sword of Yunmen?" "Its drawn!" "How about the who is using it?" The Master said: "Su-lu, su-lu!" (Case 82)

A fine overview of an ancient sage
As part of her effort to document Master Yunmen and his surviving teachings, Ms. App travelled to the site of his ancient monastery in China. She performed "first-hand" analysis of the teachings, many of which are literally etched in stone there. I found her introduction and background to the teachings to be more interesting than the teachings themselves. The teachings are what one expects from the writing of ancient Chan/Zen masters - they don't "make a lot of sense" when approached from our normal way of thinking about things.

My way, the way of the white clouds
Published in Unknown Binding by Grove Press : distributed by Random House ()
Author: Rajneesh
Average review score:

Insightful, brilliant
This book is an edited version of the "spontaneus discourses given by Osho in Lao Tzu House, Poona, India". All the fifteen chapters in " My Way" are replete with insightful statements and as a whole will lead to a very blissful life if followed.

It is ironical that the man who exhorted everyone to drop their egos and become desireless didn't follow his own advice. This is where Osho differed from the likes of Ramana Maharshi and Nisargadatta Maharaj. His driving ambition to start a new religion at any cost led to his downfall.

But we should still be very grateful to Osho (Rajneesh) for a countless number of brilliant discouses on Tantra, Taoism, Zen, and anything to do with self-awareness, and also to his "sanyasins" who had toiled so hard to edit his discourses for publication.

To me the Best of Osho
I read a lot of Osho's book and many more of other Master. This is to me the best of Osho and probably of of the top 5 book I know.

A book is a book, meeting a real master is meeting a real master. If you are pulled toward IT, find one.Only after I met John de Ruiter, that I found someone to replace the magnificence of Osho. Rare are the Master that have been on this planet of the caliber of Jesus. For those interested sincerely in the Truth, I would suggest to meet John de Ruiter

Do you know how a white cloud moves?
A book that show the darshans questions and the marvelous insights of this modern mystic called Osho. A good book to read into the nature. Good Reading!

Sometimes I Feel Like a Storm Cloud
Published in Paperback by Mondo Pub (June, 2000)
Authors: Lezlie Evans and Marsha Gray Carrington
Average review score:

A wonderful tool for all of us
I have two teenage daughters, and I wish so much that this book would have been around in their younger years. The illustrations in this book make it come alive. Marsha Carrington skillfully captures each emotion with her warm, wonderful, and touching illustrations. She is an illustrator I expect big things from in the future.

Wonder book to share
As a librarian, I am always looking for a great book to share with young children. When I give a tour of our public library to a first grade class, I include a story. This one is wonderful because in a class of 20-30 students, not everyone is feeling the same. Sharing this story is easy since all children can relate to the emotions shown - from proud as a peacock to the race car to the flatteed balloon. The artwork takes you to a new dimension in expressing the feelings.

Great Resource to Help Explain Emotions to Children
This is a must for anyone who deals with children, whether it be parent, teacher, pediatrician, etc. The illustrations are in tune with the storyline, making it easy for the young child to take part in explaining the story. "Why am I angry or sad or happy" can be a difficult concept for children. It is important that they know it is ok. I highly recommend this for all children. Professionals who work with children would also find it helpful. Great Work on a subject that is often overlooked in children.

A Baby's Garden : Introducing Your Baby to the Joys of the Garden

Baby's garden
A Baby's Garden "Introducing Your Baby to the Joy of the Garden" Elizabeth St. Cloud Muse Illustrated by: Eva Saull Published by: Little, Brown and Company 2001 ISBN: 0-316-60873-4 Nonfiction

"A Baby's Garden" is a lovely way for gardening parent's to introduce their love of horticulture and nature with their most precious new addition. The opening page has a frame to put the little one's picture in. Each section has a list of suggested activities followed by pages to record your adventures in. The cutest thing is a place to put babies muddy handprints during different stages of their growth. Babies love the chance to get dirty without Mom or Dad panicking. There are a couple of pages in the back with wax paper type envelopes attached where you can press the child's first flowers, leaves, etc. As a gardener I believe this would be a wonderful way to explore the garden with your infant and allow both parent and child to experience the joys of the garden and continue learning

Busy Mommy of 2 boys who love the garden
What a great idea! My boys love to be in the garden with me, talking about the things that we discover there. I will always cherish the time we spend in the garden, and what better way to remember it. The illustrations are adorable. :)

Boundaries Workbook
Published in Paperback by Zondervan (18 May, 1995)
Authors: Henry Cloud and John Townsend
Average review score:

Boundaries
I read the book and also went through an 8 week course taught by a woman/friend from my church. We used the video tape, the workbook and the bible, it was the most incredible teaching that I have ever experienced and literally has changed my life in the boundary department. I was always saying yes when I wanted to say no. I wanted people to think I was really nice when all the while I was worn out, stressed out and burned out. Though I am a Christian, I was a new Christian at the time and really wasn't up for something really churchy. It was perfect for where I was at and I would recommend it to anyone whatever their spritual belief's might be. I strongly recommend the video, so you can see what we do to ourselves on a daily basis without boundaries in our lives. Thank you for the opportunity to share this. Hope it will help others with their BOUNDARIES in life. Sincerely, Pamela K. Hayes (just got married)

One of the best books on developing healthy relationships
This book was recommended to me by a friend who works for a counseling call center. It may well become one of the classic books for people to read who need to develop or improve healthy boundaries in their relationships.

There are several case studies or examples of people who have gone through life thinking they were helping others, when in reality, they were actually enabling others to continue in whatever difficulty or struggle they were in, and worse yet, deepen the bonds of unhealthy interactions that have been coined "co-dependent".

I rate this book right up there with Dr. Larry Crabb's excellent book, "Inside Out". It is my opinion that anyone who struggles with how to relate to others in a healthy way (who doesn't?) ought to at least consider adding these two books to their inventory.

Boundaries by Cloud and Townsend does not bash you with a lot of "Christian-ese", but it is written with a Christian orientation. Even those ! unsure of such a foundation ought to consider this book anyway because it rings true. If you have a church library, this book should DEFINITELY be in it.
